In our experience, the easiest way to do the maths is to use the example of a typical stay in Lisbon.
3 days – 72 hours in Lisbon
The Lisboa Card is made up of two pillars:
- A day pass for local transport
Metro, bus, tram and trains to Sintra, Estoril and Cascais free of charge - Free admission to 51 sights
+ further discounts for city tours, concerts…
The value of the public transport card is easy to calculate:
A comparable day pass for public transport in Lisbon (Carris/Metro/CP 24h) costs €10.80 per day, totalling €32.40 for three days.
A Lisboa Card for 72 hours costs €54. That’s €21.60 more than the day tickets for local transport.
However, the card offers 51 free entries to sights.

The additional cost of €21.60 compared to the day ticket for public transport quickly pays for itself if you want to visit a few sights in Lisbon.
We were unable to evaluate the time savings or convenience of the Lisboa Card for you in monetary terms, as this depends very much on personal preference.

Who should not buy a Lisboa Card?
If you don’t want to visit any or very few sights or museums, a day pass for local public transport and ‘extra entry tickets’ are usually cheaper.
Due to visitor restrictions, many sights only sell admission tickets with a fixed time slot. We therefore recommend that you buy your tickets online (click here) to avoid them being sold out on your preferred date.
